Bird CollisionImmersive Installation / 2024
SynopsisBird collisions with glass are a widespread yet often overlooked environmental issue, causing millions of bird deaths each year. Birds, unable to recognize glass as a barrier, either perceive it as open space due to its transparency or mistake reflected greenery and sky for real habitat. These fatal misinterpretations lead to high-speed impacts, often resulting in instant death or severe injury.

This issue has long existed, yet its severity often remains underappreciated. Without firsthand experience of the impact of colliding with glass, it is nearly impossible to fully empathize with the situation. 

To address this, we propose an immersive approach combining virtual and physical interaction, crafting an experiential scenario that simulates the sudden collision of a bird in flight with a glass surface.


鳥類撞擊玻璃是一個普遍存在卻常被忽視的環境問題，每年導致數以百萬計的鳥類死亡。鳥類無法將玻璃識別為障礙物，牠們或是因其透明性而將其視為開放空間，或是將玻璃反射出的綠意與天空誤認為真實的棲息地。這些致命的誤判導致了高速撞擊，往往造成瞬間死亡或重傷。 

這一問題長期存在，然而其嚴重性往往被低估。若非親身體驗與玻璃碰撞的衝擊感，幾乎不可能完全共情這種處境。 

為了應對這一挑戰，我們提出了一種結合虛擬與物理互動的沉浸式方法，構建一個模擬飛行中的鳥類與玻璃表面發生突發碰撞的體驗情境。
